Rangers Reveal Plans to Make $250 Million ‘Texas Live!' Year-Round Destination

The Texas Rangers revealed more information for "Texas Live!" the $250 million entertainment district Tuesday, across from the current Globe Life Park.

"We're looking forward to the beginning of building the Texas Live! that will start immediately after we win the World Series," said Rangers Co-Owner Ray Davis.

Commissioner Rob Manfred was on hand for Tuesday's announcement from the Rangers and The Cordish Companies.

"First of all it's going to serve the fans. We are going to end up with a facility here that will provide a comfortable, seasonable viewing opportunity for the fans of the Rangers as they come to see Major League Baseball and a robust entertainment opportunity that surrounds that ballpark," Manfred said.

The project is expected to include 200,000 square feet in dining and entertainment, a 300+ room upscale convention hotel, 35,000 square feet of meeting and convention space as well as an outdoor event venue that can hold up to 5,000 people.

On Tuesday, the group said the entertainment district and hotel and convention will bring 2,000 construction jobs as well as 1,025 permanent jobs.

The first phase of Texas Live! will break ground in November.

The group also announced three major venues will anchor the entertainment district: Rangers Republic, Live! Arena and Arlington Backyard.

The Texas Rangers revealed more information for “Texas Live!” the $250 million entertainment district across from the current Globe Life Park.

Rangers Republic will be the "ultimate fan clubhouse" for Texas Rangers fans during home and away games and all year-round. The two-level, 30,000 square foot family-friendly dining and entertainment venue that will include authentic team memorabilia and history.

Live! Arena will be a multi-level facility that will feature more than 35,000 square feet in dining and entertainment options. A 100' LED screen will be the centerpiece, a two-story, retractable glass facade will flow into a 10,000 square foot outdoor beer garden. There will also be a performance stage for concerts.

Arlington Backyard is a 5,000-capacity outdoor pavilion that will be the "backyard" of Texas Live! It will have a permanent roof so that it can be used throughout the year. The venue will hot more than 250 annual events including cultural activities, art shows, regional and national concerts, charitable functions and community events such as festivals.

The Texas Rangers and city of Arlington are spending $200 million on a new entertainment venue near Globe Life Park, and now they are revealing more details on the plans.

The entertainment district is expected to bring 3 million new visitors when it opens in 2018.

The Rangers’ lease at Globe Life Park set to expire in 2024, seven years after “Texas Live!” goes live.

You may remember in May 2016, the Rangers and City of Arlington announced plans for a new $1 billion retractable-roof stadium and a partnership that extends to 2054.

The Rangers opted to build a new stadium because adding a roof to Globe Life Park would be too expensive and the Rangers would have nowhere to play while construction was underway.

Manfred said while the proposed stadium will be great for attracting players going forward, it will also be attractive to the MLB.

"I think this project presents an opportunity for Major League Baseball. Obviously, some of our jewel events, most notably the All-Star game, take place in the summer. To have a market like Dallas, Fort Worth that has a stadium that's climate controlled presents an opportunity to bring those special events to a market that's really, really important for us," Manfred said.

Other phases of Texas Live! will include plans to preserve the iconic exterior facade of Globe Life Park and the group will explore options to re-purposed the venue.

"It's our intent to preserve the exterior facade of our existing facility," said Davis. "It is my sincere desire that we can build a stadium that will compliment both the architecture  and character of our existing facility and that we hope to repurpose our existing facility by leaving in place what we currently have."
