Rangers Receiving ‘Ton of Interest' in Profar

The Texas Rangers could use another pitcher or two before the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline, and they've been showcasing an attractive trade chip during the last few weeks.

According to's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers have received a "ton of interest" in former top prospect Jurickson Profar.

After scuffling for the last two seasons with injuries, Profar is putting up a triple-slash line of .318/.366/.455 (average/OBP/SLG) while playing at least above average defense at multiple positions.

The Rangers have been linked pitchers like Oakland's Rich Hill, Tampa Bay's Jake Odorizzi and San Diego's Andrew Cashner, who would help bolster the rotation. A player with Profar's versatility and pedigree will likely be intriguing to all those clubs.

The main question is whether the Rangers think Profar is worth a mid-rotation starter, but another question could be which of Profar and Rougned Odor they see as the long-term solution at second base. Odor had been the frontrunner, but he and the Rangers recently tabled discussions about an extension.
