Rangers' Hamilton Has Knee Surgery, Could Return This Year

Josh Hamilton had arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight meniscus tear in his left knee, and there's still a chance the Texas slugger could play again this season.

The Rangers said there was optimism for a quick recovery but no timetable for Hamilton's return. The surgery was performed Friday by team physician Dr. Keith Meister.

Hamilton was on the disabled list last month with left knee inflammation and has two pinch-hit at-bats since he was activated Sept. 1. That would be his likely role if he plays again.

The 34-year-old Hamilton started the season on the DL following right shoulder surgery when he was still with the Los Angeles Angels.

He was out about a month in June with a left hamstring strain after getting traded to Texas. He's hitting .257 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 40 games.
