Police said a man barricaded himself and a psychologist in his home across the street from a southwest Fort Worth middle school on Wednesday.
The man was armed with a shotgun while he spoke with the psychologist, police said. Investigators said they did not believe he threatened the psychiatrist.
A SWAT team secured the perimeter around the home, police said.
Hostage negotiators began speaking with the man at 5 p.m. He told police he would start shooting if anyone tried to enter the home.
The psychologist later came out of the home with the man's shotgun, police said.
The man gave himself up to police shortly after 6 p.m.
The home is across the street from Wedgwood Middle School in the 3800 block of Wilkie Way. Police allowed students to leave school at their regular dismissal time from the north side of the school, out of harm's way.
