Protected Trees Taken Down in Redbird Neighborhood

Seventy-five protected trees have been taken down on a four-acre property in Dallas's Redbird neighborhood.

The area is near the southwest corner of West Ledbetter Drive and U.S. Highway 67.

Neighbors say the trees used to block Highway 67, so they couldn't see it. But they also say highway noise is much louder now without the trees and there are a lot more animals now around their homes.

The city has issued a notice of violation to the property owner but not a citation.

Once the damaged trees are removed, the city says additional tree removal will not be approved.

The property owner may be forced to plant new trees on site or in a city park, and the developer may also have to pay into a re-forestation fund.

That developer has not returned a request for comment.
