After complaints of noise and nuisance, Preston Hollow's United Methodist Church has shut down the outdoor playground at its Child Development Center.
It’s a move that has parents voicing their displeasure.
"I just can't conceive of having a problem with toddlers play and laugh," said Peggy Hintergardt, a parent of a 1-year-old and 3-year-old, both of whom attend the center.
On Tuesday evening, parents received a letter, informing them, in part, that,
"Last week our neighbor, who has been upset by the noise from the playground, called the police. As you may be aware, the CDC has been working to remedy the situation over the past several months. Until this issue is resolved, your children will play outside in the courtyard and not be playing on the playground. I will inform you of progress as we move forward."
The center told NBC 5 on Wednesday that they have contacted an attorney, but would not speak publicly before consulting with their legal representation on Thursday.
Parents said they have heard about rumored noise complaints for months.
The latest news from around North Texas.
Neighbor Connie Elliott, who walks by the school every morning, said the noise is audible but not excessive. However, she said does not live across the street from the playground.
"When they're screaming to me, it just seems like they’re just having fun," she said. "I've lived in the neighborhood for about 42, 43 years and I’ve never heard a complaint."
Neighbors objecting to the noise did not give comment to NBC 5 on Wednesday afternoon.
