Prairie Lights Kicks Off Holiday Season

1,250 people got a sneak peak of Grand Prairie's annual festival

The popular Prairie Lights attraction is set to open for another year on Thanksgiving Day, and what a difference a year makes.

Last year, the city of Grand Prairie pulled of miracle after flood waters and Thanksgiving storms threatened the annual festival.

"The route this year will go back to the original route," said Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen. "Last year we had to cut off a fourth of it because of the rain."

The city built a new road, which bypassed the floods and rearranged light displays.

"We built that road in two days, but this will be the original route with all of the lights this year," said Jensen.

About 1,250 runners and walkers got a sneak peak of Prairie Lights with a 5K run Saturday.
