Poll: More GOP Hispanics in Texas Than U.S. Average

New polling numbers show that far more Hispanic and Anglo residents in Texas identify with the Republican Party than the national average.

Gallup released a new analysis of daily tracking polls on Friday that suggest Democrats are facing a tough fight to turn one of the nation's reddest states blue.

The poll shows that about 46 percent of Hispanics identify themselves as Democratic in Texas, which is down from 53 percent in 2008. About 27 percent say they agree with the GOP, which is about 6 percent higher than Hispanics in other states.

Among Anglos, 61 percent identified as Republican in Texas. That compares to 48 percent nationally.

The data was based on 1,000 phone interviews conducted daily in all 50 states throughout 2013.
