A young girl is recovering from critical injuries suffered when police said a suspected drunken driver hit her Saturday morning.
Fort Worth Police Department officials said Laura Martin, 28, was driving an SUV the wrong way on Sendera Ranch Boulevard when she struck an 11-year-old girl and then crashed into a brick wall near a home in the 14200 block of Sendera Ranch Boulevard.
The girl was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in critical condition with two broken legs, according to authorities.
Officials said Martin also struck a second 11-year-old girl who paramedics treated at the scene.
Police said they arrested Martin after she was released from John Peter Smith Hospital. She was charged with intoxication assault.
“There’s not a good way to say 'I’m sorry enough,'” Martin told NBC 5 from the Mansfield City Jail Monday night. “I can never make it right. I’m just so sorry.”
Martin, the mother of three children, said she was neither drunk or on drugs and that blood samples taken after the accident will prove it. She said she left her mother’s house in the heat of an argument and lost control of her SUV when she reached for a water bottle and knocked it over.

“I jumped in the car and we were yelling and screaming at each other and I took off,” she said. “I was not paying attention like I should have been, I should not have been fighting, and I know I was going too fast."
Martin said it will always be the worst day of her life.
“I can’t say how they could ever forgive me," she said. "I just hope they’re all okay”.
Martin’s bond is set at $10,000.
While Martin sits behind bars, neighbors said they are still haunted by the image of the little girl on the ground.
“I just heard a loud crash and my dog was freaking out and I peeked out the door to see what happened and I heard screaming,” said witness Edgar Angeles. “I just pray that little girl gets well."
