Police: Teen Charged With Murder After Alcohol Dispute

Abilene police have arrested a 16-year-old boy suspected of driving a car and running over and killing a man who refused to buy the teen alcohol.

Police did not immediately provide additional details Monday on the teen facing a juvenile murder charge in the death of 58-year-old Jesse Cortinez.

Investigators said the underage youth approached Cortinez outside an Abilene convenience store Friday night and asked the man to buy alcohol for him. Cortinez refused and tried to walk away.

Police said Cortinez was run over by a vehicle that then sped away. A car matching the description was located early Saturday behind a residence several blocks away and the teen was arrested.

Abilene police spokesman Rick Tomlin said Monday that the teenager has been charged with murder in juvenile court in the death of Jesse Cortinez, a 58-year-old local man. A detention hearing was pending for the teen.
