Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Burleson

Burleson police say a man shot by officers outside a house Friday afternoon had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and ignored several orders to drop his weapons.

Police said the man apparently shot himself inside the residence on the 800 block of Pecan Street, then called 911 just before 3 p.m. to report the shooting.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man allegedly walked outside holding a knife and a gun. The officers then gave numerous verbal commands for him to drop the weapons, police said in a Friday evening update.

The man did not drop the weapons, so two Burleson police officers and a Johnson County constable fired at the man, striking him an unknown number of times.

The man was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in serious to critical condition.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
