Police Chase Ends in Wrong-Way Crash

A police chase through Dallas County ended in a wrong-way crash early Thursday morning.

Two vehicles collided in the westbound lanes of Interstate 30 at Winslow Avenue after police and Dallas County Sheriff's Office personnel tried to pull the driver over.

According to Dallas County 911 dispatchers, callers reported seeing a Dodge pickup truck traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35E near Victory Avenue at about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the driver made it to the I-35E/I-30 exchange and turned eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-30. During the pursuit, law enforcement officers used spike strips on I-30 at Haskell Avenue, which flattened the two passenger side tires.

Officers said the truck slammed into a Scion car on I-30, leading to the end of the pursuit. Both drivers have been taken to the hospital, but neither is said to have serious injuries.

Sheriff's deputies have custody of the suspected wrong-way driver, 31-year-old Ivan Camacho, and are working to get a warrant to draw his blood and test for possible intoxication. Deputies said Camacho is under suspicion of intoxication assault.
