Dallas police said they went to the apartment of Georgia Scruggs in the 9900 block of Walnut Street after her coworkers expressed concern about her missing work and found Scruggs' body. A police report indicated she died as a result of homicidal violence.

Scruggs shared the apartment with her nephew, Ernest William Scruggs Jr. Detectives said they later learned Ernest Scruggs was suspected in an arson case where he tried to set fire to the apartment.

Police said they arrested Ernest Scruggs in Garland late Tuesday night. Scruggs then gave a voluntary statement that detailed his involvement in his aunt's death.

Ernest Scruggs remains in the Dallas County Jail on charges of capital murder and arson. His bail was set at $1 million.
