Southlake police officers are patrolling the area where a man tried to convince a student to get in his truck Thursday, police say.
According to police, a boy was walking to school when a man in pickup truck pulled up next to him and asked the boy to get into his vehicle. The boy said no, police said, and did the right thing by then leaving the area.
After the student got to Durham Intermediate School, he told the Southlake Police Department's school resource officer and the Carroll Independent School District about the man. Once police were contacted, a forensic artist met with the boy to create a composite sketch of the man.
The boy described the man as white and in his mid-50s. He was wearing glasses, a light blue baseball cap and a light gray zip-up jacket. He has various tattoos on his forearm. His height and weight are not known since the man didn't exit the vehicle.
The student described the truck as a "newer looking," white, extended cab pickup.
Parents in the neighborhood told NBC 5 that they are keeping a closer eye on their children.
“We, as parents, have all come together and we are texting each other, if we’re going to pick up our child, because they all walk in a group,” said Cheryle Powell. “We make sure they're in a group and stay in a group”

Parents received an alert soon after the incident. Many parents were shocked by the news.
“We are all on alert, and looking out, and not going to let something like this terrorize us, and keep our kids from walking him we are going to be smart and communicate with each other,” said Powell.
Officers are keeping a close eye on school areas while investigating Thursdays report. The Southlake Police Department is asking people to call 817-748-8127 or Tarrant County CrimeStoppers 817-469-8477 if they recognize the man.
