Plans To Move Alamo Collection To Texas A&M Campus Delayed

The group that oversees the collection of Alamo artifacts has yet to secure an agreement for the long-term storage of the archive.

The San Antonio Express-News reports the Daughters of the Republic of Texas had tentative plans to move the collection of 38,000 items to Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

But the building that would house the collection is owned by the city and would need significant upgrades. San Antonio officials have not committed to those renovations.

The DRT on Friday moved much of the collection of periodicals, maps and other material to a commercial storage facility.

The collection had been at the Alamo more than 70 years but is being moved under an agreement with the Texas General Land Office, which has taken over operation of the Alamo grounds.
