Plano Police Announce Arrest in 1989 Slaying

A Dallas man already serving time for a 2001 slaying has been charged in the 1989 killing of a North Texas woman.

Plano police say they linked 48-year-old Temmie Cooley to the cold case using DNA evidence. Cooley was charged Monday in the death of 23-year-old Sharon Trimble of Glenn Heights, who was found strangled in a ditch.

Investigators say Cooley and Trimble both worked in the cafeteria of a Dallas hospital.

Texas prison system records show Cooley is serving 35 years for the December 2001 slaying of Earlene Wardell in a Kaufman County case. Wardell was strangled and her body was dumped in a remote location.

A Plano police spokesman on Wednesday had no details on an attorney for Cooley.
