Based on violent crime rates and traffic fatalities reported in 2010 and 2009 respectively, Plano tops America's Safest City list for 2011, according to Forbes magazine.
Forbes reviewed a total of 72 cities with populations greater than 250,000.
Chicago was one city left out of the ranking. The FBI only compiled data from municipalities that submit complete reports.
Rounding out the top three were Henderson, Nev., in second and Honolulu, which placed third.
One surprise was New York City, which placed 10th.
