Pit Bull Puppy Set on Fire, Palestine Police Seek Information

A female pit bull puppy was injured when someone doused her with an accelerant and lit her on fire early Monday morning in Palestine, police say.

The puppy was found badly injured on the 700 block of South Street and is now being treated at a local veterinary clinic after being helped by Palestine Animal Control.

Witnesses said that an “an older model four-door passenger car, either gold or silver in color, was observed leaving the scene.” It was occupied by three black males, two black females and one Hispanic female, they told police.

Whoever is responsible for setting the puppy on fire could face charges of cruelty to animals, which is punishable up to two years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

Palestine Police urge anyone with information to contact the police department at 903-729-2255 or Crimestoppers at 903-729-8477. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by texting PALPD plus the information to 847411.
