Pilot Declares Emergency Because of Wing Safety Concern

San Diego flight heading for DFW lands at LAX.

An American Airlines plane heading from San Diego to DFW was diverted to Los Angeles after the pilot declared an emergency because of safety concerns.

Flight 414 left San Diego, when shortly after takeoff , a passenger reported seeing something coming off the right wing on the Boeing 757.

The pilot declared an emergency and re-routed the plane to LAX.

The plane with 194 passengers and crew landed safely and without incident.

Upon further inspection, American maintenance crews said they found a seal hanging off the aircraft wing. American Airlines said nothing came off of the wing.

The FAA will work with the airline to determine what happened and will make sure that the plane is repaired before it goes back into service.

Passengers on the flight were placed on another flight to DFW.
