Perry Forms PAC to Back GOP Candidates Nationwide

Gov. Rick Perry has created a new political action committee to support Republican candidates nationwide as he mulls a possible second presidential run.

Spokesman Mark Miner said Monday that Perry filed federal paperwork for the group called RickPAC last week.

Miner said it will "support candidates who share the same principles and goals" as the governor.

Perry has raised his national profile lately by deploying 1,000 National Guard troops to the Texas-Mexico border amid a surge of unaccompanied immigrant children pouring into the U.S.

But Miner noted, "He's been talking about the same issues for a number of years, border security, job creation, fiscal responsibility."

Last year, Perry used funds left over from his 2012 presidential bid to create Americans for Economic Freedom, promoting GOP leadership around the country.
