People in 7 More Texas Counties Eligible for May Storm Help

A total of 30 Texas counties could be eligible for state and federal help

Seven Texas counties have been added to a federal disaster declaration following deadly May storms.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday urged affected individuals in Cooke, Dallas, Fannin, Grayson, Liberty, Nueces and Walker counties to seek assistance.

Homeowners, renters and business owners in Dallas County who sustained losses or damage from the flooding event may register at any time. There are three ways to do so:

  • Online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Via smartphone or web-enabled device by using the FEMA app
  • Calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 800-462-7585 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Overall, people in 30 Texas counties could be eligible for state and federal help. The declaration involves damage from storms, tornadoes and flooding since May 4.

Two people were killed May 10 when a tornado hit Van. Parts of Central Texas and the Houston area were swamped as Memorial Day weekend flooding claimed more than two dozen lives statewide.

The other 23 Texas counties are Bastrop, Blanco, Caldwell, Denton, Eastland, Fort Bend, Gaines, Guadalupe, Harris, Hays, Henderson, Hidalgo, Johnson, Milam, Montague, Navarro, Rusk, Smith, Travis, Wichita, Williamson, Wise and Van Zandt.
