Passer-By Credited With Saving Hit-and-Run Victim's Life

Police seek information on March 3 hit-and-run, robbery

Fort Worth police say a passer-by who stopped and called 911 saved the life of a hit-and-run victim earlier this month.

A vehicle struck Donna Cunningham while she was walking on East Seminary Road near Wichita Street at about 2 a.m. on March 3.

Letitia Similton stopped when she saw Cunningham and called 911. She stayed with her until paramedics arrived.

"I didn't know if she was alive or not, but as I got out, she raised her arm and started screaming for somebody to help her, so I held her hand a bit and called 911 and tried to keep my composure and not panic," Similton said.

Cunningham remains hospitalized in critical condition. Police said she is unable to speak or communicate about what happened to her.

Investigators said she was also robbed.

"She had some personal items and money that was taken and, at this time, we have no idea who may have taken those items," Officer Sharron Neal said. "It could have been the driver of the hit-and-run or it could have been someone else who came along."

Neal said she is thankful that Similton came along -- and so is Similton.

"I thank God, because that's not the way I come," Similton said. "I come the way I know on the freeway, so that couldn't have been nothing but God bringing us that direction at two o'clock in the morning."

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call Fort Worth police at at 817-335-4222 or leave an anonymous tip online with Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County.
