Party Animal Recalls Dog Food Over Traces of Pentobarbital

Dog food company Party Animal is pulling its Cocolicious dog food from shelves after lab tests showed traces of pentobarbital in some products.

That's the same drug used to put dogs and cats to sleep.

The Food and Drug Administration posted an alert from the company this week, saying a customer first presented the dog food samples to a retailer in Texas.

The samples were from a 13-ounce-can Cocolicious Beef & Turkey dog food (Lot #0136E15204 04, best by July 2019) and 13-ounce-can Cocolicious Chicken & Beef dog food (Lot #0134E15 237 13, best by August 2019).

As a precaution the company has asked retailers to isolate the remaining cans from those lots, and any customers who have cans with those lot numbers in their possession should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The company's alert said there is one report of a single pet who experienced discomfort, but there have been no deaths reported.
