Palmer Police Officer Grazed by Bullet During Traffic Stop

Authorities in North Texas say a police officer has avoided serious injury when he was grazed by gunshot during a struggle with a man during a traffic stop.

Ellis County deputies say the officer from Palmer, about 25 miles south of Dallas, stopped a car Saturday on Interstate 45. The officer determined one of the people in the car had an outstanding warrant for aggravated sexual assault in Collin County.

When the man tried to run away, the officer tried and failed to subdue him with an electronic stun gun. In the ensuing struggle, he tried to take the officer's gun and it went off, grazing the officer.

The man, 22-year old Jose Guadalupe Cano Jr., subsequently was captured and is jailed on the outstanding warrant.

Authorities say additional charges are pending.
