Water Main Break Could Be Under I-30: Officials

Fort Worth Water Department officials said it could take weeks to repair a water main break that happened Sunday night.

A 42-inch main near the intersection of Interstate 30 and Beach Street began spewing water.

"A 42-inch line is pretty big line," Fort Worth Water Department spokeswoman Mary Gugliuzza said. "It's not the largest that we have, but it's a very good size line."

Crews were able to isolate the line and turn it off so no customers were affected. When crews dug up the line, however, they were unable to locate the break -- leading them to believe it's lying somewhere under I-30.

The department's engineers will examine the area Monday and determine the next steps.

"The challenge really is, at the moment, that we don't know where exactly the break is," said Gugliuzza. "There are ways that the repair may be performed that will not really impact drivers."

Gugliuzza says they'll likely have to hire a contractor to make the repairs because of where the break is.
