One Dead in Rollover Accident in Dallas

Dallas police say the M.E. will determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident

A deadly late-night rollover accident shut down northbound I-35E for about two hours around midnight Monday into Tuesday.

Dallas police say at about 11:30 p.m. Monday they were called to the 10700 block of Stemmons Freeway, in the area where northbound Loop 12 joins northbound I-35E.

Officers found the a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe on its roof and a woman ejected from the vehicle, a man inside the Tahoe was also injured.

58-year-old Ethel Hazet veered to the right for an unknown reason and hit a construction barrier causing the Tahoe to roll several times, according to Dallas Police Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse.

Hazet was taken to Parkland Hospital where the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office confirmed Tuesday morning she died from her injuries.

Hazet's 32-year-old son was the passenger in the vehicle, he was taken to Parkland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries according to Janse.

Janse said the pair had been watching football at an establishment nearby and that Hazet told her son she would drive him home because he had been drinking.

The M.E. will perform an autopsy to determine if Hazet had alcohol in her system at the time of the accident according to Janse.

All northbound lanes of Stemmons Freeway were closed for about two hours while accident investigators were on the scene.

Dallas Police said it was the city's 85th traffic fatality.
