One person is dead after a chain-reaction crash involving a car, a sport utility vehicle and a tanker truck along Interstate 20 in Arlington early Wednesday morning.
The crash took place along eastbound I-20 near the New York Avenue overpass at about 2:30 a.m. when the driver of a car hit a tanker truck, lost control of the vehicle and then collided with the SUV, police said.
Both the car and the SUV then struck the center median.
When rescuers arrived they began extricating four people trapped inside the two damaged vehicles.
The driver of the SUV, a woman identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner as 57-year-old Elaine Plummer, was taken to Medical Center of Arlington where she later died.
The three occupants of the car, a man and two women, were hospitalized in serious condition.
The tanker truck was not damaged in the crash and the driver of the truck was not injured.

Police said late Wednesday morning that alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in the crash. While no arrests have been made at this time, they are anticipated, police said.
The eastbound lanes of I-20 were closed until about 7 a.m. as crews worked to clear the crash scene.
