Old Cabana Motor Hotel on Stemmons Spared, for Now, as Developer Drops Plans to Buy, Raze

The formerly Doris Day-owned hotel on Stemmons Freeway where the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Richard Nixon, the Who and Jimi Hendrix once stayed and where Raquel Welch used to work isn’t going to be razed and replaced by a six-story data center after all.

In November 2014, the Dallas County Commissioners Court voted to sell the former Bill Decker Detention Center on Stemmons Freeway to Lincoln Property Co., which intended to tear down the one-time Cabana Motor Hotel and build a mammoth data center. But Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has confirmed that Lincoln never actually bought the building.
