Officials: 2 Hurt After Gas Plant Blast, Fire in South Texas

Authorities say two workers are injured after an explosion and large fire at a gas plant in South Texas.

TV station KENS reports the explosion happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday at a SouthCross Energy plant in Frio County, southwest of San Antonio.

Sgt. Jerry Reyna of the Frio County Sheriff's Office says two employees were injured. One was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital. His condition wasn't immediately known.

The other was taken to a hospital but was expected to be OK.

Reyna says it's unclear what led to the explosion.

Two highways in the area were shut down for hours after the blast, and nearby homeowners were warned to stay away.

KSAT-TV reports fire officials are letting the blaze burn out.
