Officer Shoots, Kills Carjacking Suspect

Port Arthur police say a carjacking suspect who grabbed an officer's gun was then fatally shot by another officer.

On Thursday afternoon, police arriving at a car accident learned that the vehicle had been carjacked, with the victim receiving minor injuries. Officers then located another vehicle nearby carrying the 19-year-old suspect.

Police Maj. Raymond Clark tells the Port Arthur News that after the suspect wrestled with the two officers trying to detain him, he was shocked with a stun gun, but that was not completely effective.

Clark said the suspect then grabbed the gun of one of the officers, pointing it at that officer before the other officer shot him.

Clark said that per procedure, both officers involved are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
