North Texas Pharmacist Sentenced for Drug Trafficking

A North Texas pharmacist has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for trafficking nearly $3 million worth of prescription drugs.

John Christopher Esparza of Granbury in January pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone. Prosecutors on Monday announced the 29-year-old Esparza was sentenced in Sherman.

Prosecutors said Esparza from late 2012 until September 2015 was the druggist in charge of Trinity Pharmacy in Carrollton. Investigators say Esparza illegally sold large quantities of oxycodone to another individual.

Inventory records indicated a large amount of oxycodone, with a street value of $2.9 million, was unaccounted for. Esparza was indicted last summer.
