North Texas Man Gets Life Term for 2015 Double Slaying

A man in Quanah has been sentenced to a life term in jail for a double slaying.

A North Texas man must serve life in prison without parole for the 2015 slaying of two people at a vacant home near Quanah.

Gary Andrew Callaway was convicted Wednesday of capital murder. The 31-year-old Quanah man was arrested at a Wichita Falls motel a few days after the April 8, 2015, shootings that left a man and a woman dead.

The victims were Terrance Besaw of Chillicothe and Lisa Marie Waddle of Burkburnett.

Callaway told investigators that the killings were self-defense.

Hardeman County prosecutors say Callaway thought Besaw was working with law enforcement, smelled a chemical that can be used to make methamphetamine and confronted Besaw. Waddle was a witness.

Prosecutors didn't seek the death penalty so Callaway received an automatic life prison term without chance of parole.
