North Texans Volunteer to Remember 9/11

More than 700 North Texans paused on 9/11 to do a little bit of work for others.

Entrepreneurs for North Texas hosted their 15th Freedom Day on Sunday as a way to remember the lives lost and the first responders who served America on September 11, 2001.

Volunteers from several Dallas businesses as well as their families and local veterans groups came together to do service work at 15 different sites across the area.

The group painted a children’s center in a refugee community, cleaned up a local veterans’ cemetery, and volunteered at local food banks; among other projects.

"September 11th is now a day that we look forward to because we are able to celebrate the true human spirit,” said organizer Sejal Desai.

Since the event launched in 2002, more than 5,000 North Texans have taken part to continue the spirit of service left behind on 9/11.

“That was a moment when we were all one I mean we were indeed one America,” said volunteer and retired marine Scott Cooper, “and maybe we’ve lost that a little bit, so an opportunity like today is what’s so extraordinary.”
