North Texans Head Back to School

Monday was busy day for many families across North Texas. Thousands of students went back to school and adjusted to new schedules.

The Woods family in Denton let NBC 5 Today follow their morning routine. Husband and father Mike Woods, his wife Dorothy and their two daughters Meagan and Rachel treat breakfast time as “family time.”

“Now that school is starting, we all have different schedules,” said Mike. “We like to have breakfast together and that’s our family time. Both girls play the violin, Rachel just started cheerleading, Megan runs track, and my wife is a teacher. Our schedules can get hectic,” Mike said.

Dorothy Woods wears two hats, and has been preparing for the first day of school as a mom and a teacher. She has been an educator for 17 years and currently teaches reading at Harpool MS in Denton ISD.

“I still get excited for the first day of school,” said Dorothy. “As a mom, I know how it feels to have those ‘back to school’ jitters, so as a teacher I make sure to help make the experiences for students as easy and comforting as possible,” she said.
