North Richland Hills Confirms Rabies Case, Reminds Residents to Vaccinate Pets

There was a confirmed case of rabies in North Richland Hills, and the city is asking residents to vaccinate their pets.

The Texas Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control confirmed on Wednesday, May 6 that a deceased skunk found in the 7100 block of Douglas Lane tested positive for rabies.

The City of North Richland Hills asks the public to take the following precautions.

  • Vaccinate your pets. Rabies vaccinations are required by city ordinance. Keeping your pets vaccinated protects you and them.
  • Obey the city's leash law and restrain your pets so they do not come in contact with wild animals; do not allow them to roam.  Seek veterinary assistance if your pet is bitten by a wild animal.
  • Avoid contact with wild animals and with dogs and cats you do not know. Do not feed wild animals and do not keep them as pets.
  • Do not touch sick or injured animals. Report sick or injured animals to the NRH Animal Adoption & Rescue Center at 817-427-6570.

Additional information on stopping the spread of rabies can be found at cdc.gov/rabies or dshs.state.tx.us/idcu/disease/rabies.
