According to police, officers were called to reports of a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 8200 block of Willoughby Boulevard at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
A witness told the first arriving officer there was a man standing in the common area of the apartment with a shotgun. When the gunman saw the officer, he "turned toward the officer and pointed the shotgun at him," according to the police statement.
The officer fired at the man but did not strike him, police said.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was arrested and will be charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, the statement said.
No one was hurt and the investigation is ongoing.
The officer who fired his gun was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
