Nissan North America unveiled its new state-of-the art training facility in Irving Tuesday.
Technicians arrived from Texas and beyond this week for the center's first set of classes.
More than 25,000-square-feet of operational space serves as a new training ground for Nissan and Infiniti technicians.
The latest news from around North Texas.
"I'm doing engines, I'm learning the diagnosis and how everything works," said Jacob Washington, from Fort Worth.
Trainees will get to see the newest models as they come out and learn about their technology.
"This is more like Christmas and tearing open the packages. This is all brand new and lots of presents," said Eddy Hanlen from Houston.
Hanlen and his classmates will spend four days learning the ins and outs of these vehicles. He said being a part of the first training team at the new location is a technician's dream.
"All brand new, get to be the first ones to get our hands on all the stuff, fingerprints, love it," he said.
One of the new features added to this facility is the components room, where trainees can learn about engines and transmissions.
"It gives them the opportunity to have these components out of the vehicle in a spot where they're easy to work on," said Technical Training Manager Paul Mathias.
Mathias also said growing business has created a need to train more technicians in recent years. So they moved from another facility in Irving to this one, which offers a bigger space and more training opportunities for the increased number of technicians.
Class size is kept small with eight students per instructor. Three full-time instructors work at this location.
"Technicians learn with their hands by carrying out the tasks. So we've set out specific vehicles to demonstrate specific objectives," said Mathias.
Mathias noted that customer satisfaction is key. He said dealership technicians completing the training program will be fully prepared to repair all vehicles correctly. He hopes to train up to 1,000 technicians at the facility this year.
The Irving location is one of 11 Nissan and Infiniti training centers throughout the United states serving 1,300 dealerships. The North Texas location provides training for technicians in 13 surrounding states.
