Police responded to a call on the 700 block of Winnetka Avenue around 1 p.m. after the owner, who only recently purchased the home, made the discovery while helping workers tear up a concrete slab in the backyard.
"He was talking to the contractor who smelled something," said Chris Cook, a neighbor. "They found a concrete slab."
Neighbors also complained about the smell coming from the home.
"You can't deny it. Nothing else smells like a dead body," said Cook.
Property records show realtor, Fred Robertson, bought the house this summer. Robertson said he is remodeling the home to sell it.
On Friday night, Dallas police confirmed to NBC 5 that the bones are in fact human remains.
Dallas police referred the discovery to the Dallas County medical examiner for identification. For now, the case is considered an unexplained death until the medical examiner makes his ruling.
NBC 5's Chris Jose contributed to this report.
