A Dallas suburb where police say the mayor shot and killed her teenage daughter, then herself, last July is getting a new leader.
Doug Stover was to be sworn in Wednesday night as mayor of Coppell. Stover previously was mayor but left the post, citing family reasons, then Jayne Peters was elected in 2009.
Police believe that Peters, whose death was discovered when she didn't show up for a July 13 city council meeting, was still mourning her husband, who died in 2008, and she had financial trouble. The body of her 19-year-old daughter, Corinne, was also in the family's home.
The city canceled the Nov. 2 special mayoral election because Stover was the only person running.
Mayor Pro Tem Bob Mahalik handled the mayor's duties in the interim.
