Driver Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter in Crash That Killed Woman, Child in Pleasant Grove

A man is facing two counts of intoxication manslaughter after a crash Wednesday night killed a woman and her child in Pleasant Grove, officials say.

The crash was reported at about 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of Elam Road and North Masters Drive.

According to police, the SUV, a Toyota Sequoia, was turning left from Elam Road onto North Masters when a pickup entered the intersection and struck the SUV's right front corner. The pickup, a Ford F-150, was speeding at the time, police said.

The impact sent both vehicles spinning and caused the SUV to crash into a large steel light pole.

The driver of the SUV remains hospitalized in critical condition. A passenger in the SUV, 35-year-old Heladia Ochoa, was killed in the crash along with her 6-year-old son Santini Ochoa.

A passenger in the truck also suffred critical injuries.

Police said the driver of the pickup will be charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault.

The intersection was closed for several hours overnight as police investigated.
