Mother Charged for Car Crash that Killed Daughter

Rowlett police have charged a mother with one count of intoxication manslaughter after police say she was behind the wheel in a crash that killed her daughter.

Cynthia Del Angel turned herself in to police at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. She bonded out of jail a little over an hour later, police said.

On June 11, 2015, officers were called to the single-vehicle crash in the 4600 block of Dexham Road, where they said the Layla Elena Del Angel, 5, was in the back seat, with a seatbelt on, but not in a car seat, officers said.

Police said the vehicle was traveling faster than the posted speed limit before crashing into a tree, according to a witness' account. Medics transported her to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

Police later obtained a court order for a sample of 24-year-old Cynthia Del Angel's blood for analysis.

Cynthia Del Angel had been involved in a minor accident with a pickup on Lakeview Parkway just minutes before the fatal crash, according to police. Dispatchers asked the drivers to pull off the roadway and into the QT convenience store until officers could get there.

Police said Cynthia Del Angel drove off and crashed her car a short time later.

A 5-year-old child has died after a crash in the 4600 block of Dexham Road in Rowlett, police said.
