Mom, Boyfriend Indicted in Acid Burning

Investigators: 4 children burned with sulfuric acid, then abandoned

A Cooke County grand jury has indicted two people in connection with the burning of four children with sulfuric acid.

Cynthia Stout, the children's mother, and Tracy Escobedo, her boyfriend, each face four felony counts of injury to a child.

Investigators say the children were splashed with sulfuric acid while they were in a pickup truck outside of a restaurant near Woodbine last month.

Three of the children were abandoned at the restaurant, and Escobedo left an 18-month-old baby with a family member, investigators said.

Authorities said last month that Stout told them Escobedo tried throwing the acid on her during an argument in the vehicle, but splashed the children instead.

A 14-year-old, a 7-year-old, a 4-year-old and the baby were severely burned. Two of the children are still in a hospital in critical condition.
