Midlothian Woman Sentenced for 2 Counts of Child Abuse

A Midlothian woman was sentenced to prison Friday after pleading guilty to two charges of injury to a child.

Sheena Armstrong, 28, was accused of physically abusing two children, ages 3 years and 19 months old. Neither child is related to her.

"With Armstrong's guilty plea and waiver of appeal, justice came a little quicker for the children in this case," Chief Felony prosecutor Amy Lockhart said in a statement.

Midlothian police said they responded to a call of an injured child on Ridgeway Drive June 5, 2013, where they found the 19-month-old child apparently in a state of shock. Armstrong told police that the child fell out of bed, but medical treatment revealed significant injuries.

Armstrong later admitted to police that she abused the child, according to authorities.

Officials said the 3-year old was also found to be abused and neglected. Two other children at the address, both related to Armstrong, were unharmed.

Authorities said the injured children were immediately placed in foster care. Their condition continues to improve.

"Our community can be assured that for the next few decades, at least, Sheena Armstrong will not be able to hurt any more children," Lockhart stated.
