A multi-city raid ended Wednesday morning with the arrest of several people suspected of being involved in a notorious Mexican drug trafficking cartel, officials said.
The raid involved several North Texas law enforcement agencies and targeted members of the La Familia Michoacana, who are believed to have been distributing crystal meth, or methaphetamines and cocaine in North Texas, investigators said.
La Familia Michoacana, which is based in Michoacan, the home state of Mexican President Felipe Calderón, is a violent and powerful trafficking organization known for moving crystal meth in the United States.
Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Dallas, Grand Prairie and Allen police department SWAT teams assisted the Dallas Drug Enforcement Administration in the operation.
An Allen police officer fired a shot during one of the raids, but no one was hurt, a police department spokesman said.
DEA officials said they are not releasing more information until Thursday due to "officer safety concerns." More details on the operation, including the names of the suspects arrested and what charges they'll face, will be released at that time.
