Melissa Ex-Mayor Sentenced in Bribery Scheme

A former North Texas mayor has been sentenced to prison for taking part in a bribery scheme with a real estate broker.

Prosecutors say David Dorman, ex-mayor of the small town of Melissa, was sentenced Friday to 33 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release after soliciting a bribe from John Christie. Both men had pleaded guilty in January to charges related to the bribery scheme.

Christie will serve six months in prison and one year of supervised release. His real estate license will be suspended during that time.

In 2007, Dorman solicited a $70,000 bribe from Christie. Prosecutors say Dorman got $30,000 in three separate payments. In exchange, Dorman arranged to annex land from a neighboring city so Christie could develop it and sell it.
