MedStar is employing the following winter weather contingency plans due to the expected weather.
Additional staff have been prepared and have been offered local hotel accommodations so that they can respond to emergencies quickly and safely.
Buckets of sand have been placed on all units to be used on icy roadways when necessary.
Extra blankets have been placed in ambulances.
EMS and fire crews will be using caution tape to identify vehicles that may be off the road to help limit the potential for repeat crash calls for damaged vehicles.
Calls for patients exposed to the weather in unprotected areas will receive a higher priority.
In the event of extremely hazardous driving conditions, MedStar may employ its "no lights and siren" response procedures for safety.
