Getting emergency crews to respond to your call for help in McKinney may cost you if you aren't a resident.
The McKinney Courier-Gazette reports the city council will vote on a cost recovery fee which could charge visitors $110 for a crash for which they are responsible, and $215 if someone is injured in that crash.
“The theory is, basically, they aren’t paying any taxes to the City of McKinney for the services they’re receiving from both the police and fire department, especially when they’re involved in accidents,” McKinney Police Chief Doug Kowalski told the paper.
The latest news from around North Texas.
The police chief said in 2010 there were 421 crashes in the city by people who didn't live there.
If the fee had been in place, that cold have amounted to roughly $50,000 for city coffers.
