McAllen Woman Gets 10 Years in Father's Death

A McAllen woman found guilty of manslaughter in the beating death of her father during an altercation last year has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The court's bailiff told The Monitor in McAllen that 34-year-old Alicia Esquivel Delgado was sentenced by a state District Court Judge Bobby Flores on Monday after being found guilty of manslaughter earlier this month.

In June, Flores had declared a mistrial in the case when jurors failed to reach a unanimous decision.

Esquivel claimed self-defense in the July 2013 death of her father, 62-year-old Rodolfo Delgado. She said that her father had been in a drunken rage as he tried to attack her and her young son.
