Even though no MLB player sunk the Million Dollar Homer, Maytag will still make a large donation to DFW-area Boys & Girls Clubs.
During the 2015 season, Maytag installed a washing machine in the outfield stands at four ballparks -- including Globe Life Park in Arlington. If a home run ball dropped into the washer, the manufacturer would donate $1 million to area Boys & Girls Clubs.
Maytag said there were a few close calls, but the season ended without a ball landing inside any of the washers.
"Maytag will build on its current support of BGCA by making a donation of $100,000 split across the 10 local Boys & Girls Clubs who would have benefited from the Million Dollar Homer. Half of that money ($50K) will go to clubs in the Arlington/Dallas area, plus each club will receive a Maytag Top Load Washer and Dryer," the company said in a statement Wednesday.
The local clubs receiving the money are: Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Texas, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County.
At this time there is no word if Maytag and Major League Baseball plan to continue the Million Dollar Homer in 2016.
