Mayor Rawlings Supports Trinity Parkway Toll Road

The Trinity Parkway project is a proposed ten-mile, six-lane, controlled-access toll road along the Trinity River corridor.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings announced Wednesday he will push for construction of a long delayed Trinity Parkway toll road.

The Mayor made the announcement before a crowd of toll road supporters at Dallas City Hall.

"We must deal with this traffic issue. It's hurting us individually and it's hurting our chances to grow our city and our neighborhoods," Rawlings said.

The Trinity River Parkway project is a proposed 10-mile, 6-lane, controlled-access toll road that is expected to relieve congestion on Interstate 35 and Interstate 30 as well as other busy roadways in Dallas.

The mayor said the proposed road along the eastern levees of the Trinity River could be built without compromising flood control and without spoiling a planned Trinity River park beside the road.

Long time opponent, Councilwoman Angela Hunt, said the mayor is wrong on all of his reasons for supporting the road.

"This doesn't make sense financially. It’s not going to fix our traffic problems, we need to move forward on Project Pegasus and finally get some traffic relief," Hunt said.

The North Texas Tollway Authority plans a public hearing on the project next week.
